PADI IDC in Kenya

The question of “why do your PADI IDC in Kenya with Ocean Tribe”, is one you are obviously asking yourself.

You are a Divemaster wanting to take the next step. The location of your PADI IDC is very important to ensure that you get the right balance of an excellent PADI IDC and experience of the area.

You also should consider life after the IDC and what the IDC package is preparing you for.

So why do your PADI IDC in Kenya? Here are a few reasons why.

PADI IDC Training Centre and Course Director

Ocean Tribe runs the most up-to-date PADI IDC with state-of-the-art training materials and tools. Our dedicated IDC workshop area includes projectors, screens, digital whiteboards, candidate power sockets and full wifi access. Located in the same complex is our diver training pool and boat launching point on Diani Beach. Everything is in the complex so you can just concentrate on your training.

The PADI Course Director Mark Slingo has 20 years experience working on IDCs in many parts of the World. He has trained hundreds of dive professionals and won multiple awards, especially in the field of adaptive diver training. Mark is a great choice as a PADI Course Director to mentor you on your journey to PADI Instructor.

Specialty Instructor Ratings Included in the IDC Package- How Many Dive Qualifications will you come out of the PADI IDC with?

When you are looking for diver jobs, the more you can offer a dive centre then the more useful a dive employee you can be. As a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor you are able to teach the core PADI courses from beginner to Divemaster levels plus Project AWARE, AWARE Coral Reef Conservation and Peak Performance Buoyancy.

Becoming a PADI Specialty Instructor also increases the amount you can teach and thus keeps you from becoming stagnant teaching only one or two types of course.

All Ocean Tribe IDCs include PADI Adaptive Techniques Instructor and Emergency Oxygen Provider Instructor courses plus a choice of 5 more speciality instructor courses.

You will leave your PADI IDC in Kenya program at Ocean Tribe with 7 extra PADI Specialty Instructor ratings as well as the Project AWARE, AWARE Coral Reef Conservation and Peak Performance Buoyancy specialties. So you will be able to teach 10 PADI specialties and well on your way to becoming a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer.

Flexible PADI IDC Training Options

Our PADI IDC in Kenya programs have been prepared in mind that everyone has different schedules that they need to account for.

Some like to do the traditional IDC from beginning to end which is a full 3-week program including the IDC, Instructor Exam, Specialty Instructor courses, and the bonus African wildlife safari after the IE.

But for those of you who don’t have as much time to spare for the IDC, then we do have the Live online workshop option for you.

On this option, you complete the dry and classroom workshops, and knowledge development presentations live in our Online IDC classroom with the PADI Course Director and fellow candidates from wherever you are in the world.

As such you only have to come to Kenya to do the in-water work of the IDC, the PADI IE, and the Specialty Instructor training. This can cut down a lot on the amount of time you have to be here (although we can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to stay as long as possible).

Preparation Training Centre

Preparing for your PADI IDC can be stressful as you get ready everything you need to succeed in the program.

Dive theory is one such area you have learned on the PADI Divemaster course and will be tested in written exams on the PADI IDC and IE.

To aid you in your dive theory study, Mark and the Ocean Tribe IDC Team have put together an online IDC Study Centre. In this, you will find videos, diagrams, and explanations of dive theory. These will help you get confident with the five dive theory areas. Physics, Physiology, Dive Skills & The Environment, Equipment and the RDP.

The IDC online learning centre can be an invaluable tool for preparing for your PADI IDC and you can go onto the course confident you have one area suitably covered.

Diving Job Prospects Following the PADI IDC in Kenya

Once you have passed your PADI IDC you will want to look for a diving job as a PADI Instructor.

While occasionally we do have openings at Ocean Tribe, there are also plenty of dive job opportunities in the local East African market for diving instructors including:

The Kenyan dive areas of Diani, Shimoni, Malindi, Watamu, Mombasa and Kilifi and just across the border with the Tanzanian islands of Pemba and Zanzibar.

Mark will aid you in preparing your dive instructor CV (resume) and help you search for dive jobs around the world with his extensive dive network of contacts.

If you wish he can also teach you the basics of website design and maintenance for dive centres, Diveshop 360 management software training, and even a full dive centre management module.

Kenya’s Diving and Beach Life

The diving in Kenya is another main reason to do your PADI IDC here. While still not as well known as other parts of the tropical world, Kenya diving boasts some absolute treasures.

From coral reefs boast a massive array of marine life from nudibranchs and octopuses, up to the giant whale shark and manta rays. You are likely to encounter more turtles than you have seen before on most of our dive sites and very often playful local dolphins. What a place to learn.

On land, Diani Beach itself is frequently rated one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Its white powder sands and azure sea are the perfect place to chill after diving and there is also plenty of entertainment here.

Wildlife Safari Included for PADI IDC Candidates

You would be crazy to come to Kenya and not go and see the World-famous wildlife. As such with every PADI IDC in Kenya with Ocean Tribe we include a FREE 3 day/2 night African wildlife safari. This is done following the IE and what a way to celebrate becoming a PADI Instructor.

1 Year Membership of the Ocean Tribe Dive Club

We love nothing more than our go-pro dive graduates coming diving with us. The Ocean Tribe IDC package includes a one-year membership of the Ocean Tribe Dive Club. This means that for 12 months you can get unlimited diving with Ocean Tribe, dive equipment and travel discounts, and discounts at local bars, restaurants, and hotels. Another fabulous inclusion with your PADI IDC in Kenya.

The Kenya and East Africa Experience

Coming to Kenya and East Africa, you are opening yourself up to so many experiences.

From the coast of Mombasa to the peaks of Mt Kenya and Mt Kilimanjaro. The cultural sights from the Swahili coast to the hundreds of tribes in the region.

The largest canyon in the world and craters of the Great Rift Valley. The might of the River Nile at Jinja rapids. The flamingo-covered lakes and searching for the Big 5!

One of the most diverse wildlife havens on earth. From the savannahs of Tsavo, the Masai Mara and Serengeti. To the mountains of the Aberdares in Kenya, the Mountains of the Moon, and gorillas in Rwanda and Uganda, there is so much to see.

You will never be able to experience it all in a lifetime.

Dive Instructor Internship Option Available

For those of you who have set your goal to become a PADI Instructor but are not a Divemaster yet, why not complete all of your training as a PADI Instructor here at Ocean Tribe?

We offer custom packages from beginner levels or any level you wish to start up to the PADI IDC.

These internships can include your own set of diving equipment, all PADI courses, hundreds of dives, accommodation, and more.

You will literally save thousands of dollars doing your diver training this way, rather than purchasing each course and dive trip one by one.

Great Dive Equipment Package Options Available

As a professional diver, you will need your “tools of the trade”. You don’t want to just be diving on basic borrowed equipment if you are to be the true pro.

We recognise that a diver should have a good set of equipment to work with but to reduce costs for our go-pro dive candidates, we have put together some great equipment offers.

These offers include full sets of dive equipment from top manufacturers including Oceanic, Scubapro, and Aqualung. All packages represent a massive saving on the retail price and ease the start of your diving instructional career.

Dive Centre Management Module Available

As you will learn on the PADI IDC, dive professionals take on several roles in addition to just teaching and leading diving.

These can include equipment servicing, sales, compressor maintenance, boat driving, taxi driving, tank filling and more.

Then you have the other side of the business such as accounts, website designs, licence maintenance, logistical management and much more.

Managing a dive centre can be a demanding role and our dive centre management module can teach you the basics of running a small dive business and give you some hands-on experience in the role under the supervision of our management team. Prepare yourself to go further in diving.
